Reggio at CAST

*The Guiding Principles of Reggio Emilia

  • Children are curious and interested in constructing their learning, negotiating with everything their environment brings to them.

  • Education focuses on each child in relation to other children, the family, the teachers and the community, rather than each child in isolation.

  • The design and use of space encourages encounter, communication and relationships.

  • Teachers document their work with children, whom they consider researchers.

  • The exchange of ideas between parents and teachers is an intrinsic element of collective wisdom.

  • * From Bringing Home Reggio Emilia by Louis Cadwell, Teacher College Press, 1997.

Each of our classes is involved in a different Reggio project. These slides are representative of the "work" that our children do each day. The following are excerpts from Power Point presentations that document the entire project from concept to culmination:

Sweet Peas - infants to 3 year olds  (7.8 MB)
Snapdragons - 3 year olds  (8.8 MB)
Sunflowers/Ready-Set-Grow - 4 & 5 year olds  (1.8 MB)

When I observe caterpillars I can learn...

about the wonders of nature.
When I celebrate Earth Day I can learn...

to recycle and to pick up after myself.
When I work at the art table I can learn...

to blend colors.
When I play with puzzles I can learn...

to decipher shapes and colors.
